There has been much buzz and twitter (literally) and excitement about today. And although some part of me would have liked to have seen President Obama's inauguration in person, I get tired just thinking about all of the effort it would have taken. So my DC friends and local family were safe without worrying about a visit from me. But I did want to do something a little more special than watching at home or hearing about it later after work. A few weeks ago we found out that our local independent theater was showing the inauguration with lunch included in the ticket price. Jeff agreed we should try and go so I bought tickets online and then later they got so much interest they expanded their capacity until they were finally sold out. And the arts center/concert hall down the street offered a free screening to anyone who wanted to show up.
Jeff worked from home today and met me in the lobby of the theater with tickets in hand. The crowd was buzzing with excitement and energy and good spirits. We scoped out the viewing options and got our buffet lunch from the local Mexican place and were seated for the pre-show around 11:30. And there we sat for the whole thing holding hands and clapping along with everyone and completely struck by the entire experience. And I can't think of another person I would have rather been with for it.
