Puppy Love
We awoke this morning to one very sick family member. Pepper our 12 year old border collie mix was listless and barely able to stand. Jeff had to carry her up the stairs and outside to go. She has not been very hungry the past day and a half but I have never seen her like this. We called the vet office and got her in right away. I was afraid it was a stomach tumor. They ran blood work and took x-rays and called us back in the room. It is very apparent to everyone that she is uncomfortable and depressed. Her x-rays ruled out any blockages or tumors in her organs or stomach. They did show a very enlarged heart which the vet is concerned about. It could be heart disease or a tumor. We can't tell without an ultrasound. They called around and got us a referral to an animal cardiologist for 2:30 this afternoon down in Nashua. So she is home and we're keeping her calm but she just lays on the floor and looks incredibly sad. And I cried when the vet told us because at this point the outcome does not look good. It might mean keeping her comfortable until we have to let her go.

I'm so sorry to hear that, what terrible news! It's so unfortunate when a beloved family pet goes through uncomfortable health problems. I hope the outcome, whatever it may be, is peaceful and painless.
oh i have a border collie mix too (all black) who just turned 10 and i know that my time with her is growing limited. i hope that pepper is okay and that everything works out with her.
sending good thoughts for your family and pepper.
we recently adopted 2, 4 month old puppies from mo. and just found out that the female has distemper. :-( (i set up a blog for her: wishingliffeywell.blogspot.com - hey it can't hurt...)
so, i hear you Alisa. i do hope it's a situation that can be resolved.
peace,
kath
