Love And Consequences
When I was driving back from a meeting last Friday I was listening to NPR for about an hour.  They had this interview with a woman who grew up in a foster family in South Central LA.  She had written a memoir about her experiences and the interview and passages she read sounded great.  I was so excited I told Jeff about it and we were going to order it.  Then he sent me a link to an article about how the whole thing was fake.  Her sister saw her in the NY Times and called the publisher to tell them the author had grown up in a middle class home with her biological family (and was a valley girl).  The publisher had worked with her on the book for three years and never suspected that she was lying.  That must be an editor's worst nightmare.  It is too bad she didn't just write it as fiction because she is clearly talented.  And if you could have heard her answer the caller's questions on the radio you would have found her credible.  (You can hear if you listen at the NPR link).
