Curried Beef Short Ribs

Note: I found this was more realistically four servings.

Finishing this dish with lime zest and juice brightens its rich flavors.

20 Weeks - Halfway!

"Your baby weighs about 10 1/2 ounces now. He's also around 6 1/2 inches long from head to bottom, and about 10 inches from head to heel - the length of a banana. (For the first 20 weeks, we use measurements taken from the top of the baby's head to his bottom - known as the "crown to rump" measurement. After that, we use measurements from head to toe. This is because a baby's legs are curled up against his torso during the first half of pregnancy and are very hard to measure.) A greasy white substance called vernix caseosa coats his entire body to protect his skin during its long submersion in amniotic fluid. (This slick coating also eases the journey down the birth canal.) Your baby is swallowing more, which is good practice for his digestive system. He's also producing meconium, a black, sticky substance that's the result of cell loss, digestive secretion, and swallowed amniotic fluid. This meconium will accumulate in his bowels, and you'll see it in his first messy diaper (although a few babies pass it in utero or during delivery)."

"This Week's Activity:

Treat yourself to something nice. You've made it to the halfway mark in your pregnancy, so celebrate with a little indulgence. Need some ideas?
For your comfort, try scented soaps or candles, new pajamas, or a prenatal massage.
For a keepsake, splurge on a piece of jewelry with your baby's birthstone, professional pictures of your pregnant self, or a frame for your ultrasound pictures.
To share with your baby, consider a favorite book from your childhood, a calming CD that you can listen to together, or something special for the nursery.
To feel like a hot momma, buy yourself a piece of clothing that makes you feel really sexy or get a free makeover at a department store."

I already have the maternity massage and foot treatment scheduled for this Saturday. I have the last ultrasound hanging in my office next to pictures of Keegan and Isabelle. I am superstitious about buying a birthstone before the big day. Don't have the nursery yet, so that's out. I do like that buy something sexy idea though....

Baby X is kicking and punching up a storm. I used to only be able to feel the flips. I still feel really good. My midwife said I could take a Class B drug for my migraines and I already have a prescription, but we'll see how it goes. I think keeping my blood sugar up would help too. I also asked her about preventing varicose veins. I have really thin skin that has only gotten thinner. I have a vein below my knee that looks like it could get ugly. The answer? Support hose. Now I'm thinking Carol Burnett dressed like a cleaning woman with those hose falling down around her knees. But I looked around and it comes very sheer while still supportive. And better yet, thigh high with lace trim. Very hot momma.

Count your blessings:
The penis of a rhinoceros is 2 feet long.
The penis of a mosquito is a hundredth of an inch long.
The praying mantis bites her mate's head off while he impregnates her.
Elephants are pregnant for two years.
Many animals give birth to a dozen or more babies at a time.
Your baby won't be born with hooves.
