Finishing this dish with lime zest and juice brightens its rich flavors.

Purge Before Binge
December showed and winter came with it.  Yesterday was downright frigid.  I don't mind the weather if I am prepared.  But really there has been no preview for this.  We were supposed to have a play date but it was way too cold outside.  Keegan and I met friends at a gym while Jeff took Isabelle for her flu shot.  He ran around and bounced on everything for over an hour.  And it only cost me $5.  Awesome.  Afterwards we met up to pick out our Christmas tree.  We bought one from the Y because the proceeds are supposed to go to the childcare center for a security system.  This was something we pulled together at the last parent board meeting.  We also got a wreath for ourselves and for my mom.  I had to stop twice though because it was so windy it was lifting the tree right off the car.  We got it home and while the kids napped we hauled all the decorations and tree stand upstairs.  They are at the age where they can really help decorate or at least point out the high spots where they want things hung.  Jeff had bought clear bulbs which they painted with iridescent swirls.  The tree smells so yummy.
Last night we watched "Who Killed The Electric Car?"  It was really good.  We were both ready to buy one at the end of the movie and sufficiently pissed at the car companies, oil companies and the government.  So I guess the movie did it's job.
Today Jeff out did himself again with breakfast.  Did I tell you how I get to sleep in while he takes the kids downstairs and then cooks these amazing meals?  He used a bunch of stuff up too with his homefries.  The best part is there are waffles in the freezer to eat all week.  After breakfast we began a toy purge. Every holiday season should start with a purge.  We packed up all the toddler toys still laying around and all of the things they don't have an interest in.  And threw out all the plastic bits and pieces and various items you find from two years of birthday party favor bags.  And we moved toys from upstairs downstairs and vice versa.  And we put out the games to encourage them to play and kept the imagination toys and building items.  And all along the way they helped by fetching bags or sorting or staying out of the fray.  And I feel better.  The walls were starting to close in.  And since getting a bigger house isn't going to happen any time soon we have to find a way to live better in this one.
