Why has my posting been so spotty? Two federal grants came out while I was in Alaska. One we were expecting and is our major grant every year. One was a total surprise and is a whopper both in terms of money and potential impact. They both have very short turn around times. Things are hopping here and we are making tons of calls, attending meetings up north and drafting the sections. When I took grant writing in college I never imagined it would become such an integral part of my future.
Jeff and I were supposed to have a date last night but our babysitter had to cancel. She is in the very beginning of her pregnancy and having difficulties. I am going to check in with her later this week and see how she is doing. Jeff brought home takeout Thai and we watched North Country. Then we stayed up way too late browsing sites for summer concerts. There are some fun children's shows going on locally. I might take off from work early one day to take the kids.
We had a great weekend. A birthday party for one of Keegan's schoolmates on Saturday and then over to my parents' for the first boat ride of the summer. Jeff had a guy's night out crawling pubs in Boston. Erika came over with Sammy and we all had pizza and then a slumber party. I wish I had half of Sammy's energy at 9pm. The next day we had another birthday party and then we took the kids to the beach. They ran around on the sand while Jeff flew his 100 foot+ dragon kite. It was the perfect windy day for it. After a supper of beach food (corn dogs are my weakness) we split a fried dough four ways and headed home. On Monday we spent the day at my parents'. I am convinced that kids have no nerve endings because they both swam in the lake. The water wasn't as bad as the beach but still too chilly for me. They also chased after a squirting flower sprinkler and dug in the sand. My mom scored a free log cabin playhouse from one of her neighbors so now the kids have a little place to play in the shade.
