Still Nesting

I don't think I have updated about the whole house situation for a long time. The situation with my house hasn't changed. The cowboy and the sailor both fell through. But we have decided not to buy the one we put a contract on in September. It is hard to let go of the dream of those beautiful options and all of the fun we had picking them out. But a lot has changed these past five months and our plan has changed accordingly. Bottom line is that we need space and I need to not move every three years. So now we are looking at single family homes in town. Nothing ugly cookie cutter. Nothing that is a major renovation job. I want a home with character, four bedrooms, a minimum of two baths, not too much land and in a great family neighborhood. We're willing to gut and completely redo a kitchen because we spend so much time there. I talked to an agent today and hopefully we can look at some homes this weekend.

YAY! Homes with character are the best.

What fun is cookie cutter house? I was told that I was absolutely nuts to purchase my 100-year-old house which is just over 800SF. I then proceeded to gut a good portion of it to expand my kitchen/dining area. I am also going through the painstaking process of replicating the original trim that I found tossed in the attic when someone salvaged it after that late 60s fire and some that was buried under horrible 1980s remodeling.

The funny part about it is I didn't do it for me. Because ... when I have to cook it kills me and takes weeks to recover. HOWEVER ... every huge family or friend occasion most often (like once a month) takes place in my new kitchen/dining area (which is takes up nearly 400SF of my house) even though it has been in a state-of-remodel since I purchased nine months ago.
