Hey there. Yup I'm talking directly to you. I have a request. My mom is hosting Thanksgiving next week. She is one very busy lady so I want to help her out by preparing all of the side dishes to the big bird. You know we love to cook so I am excited about this. I am taking off Wed afternoon to clear the way for cooking. Here's what I need from you. Please send me your favorite family recipes from your big day. I would love to have new ideas that are family traditions of yours.

Curried Beef Short Ribs
Note: I found this was more realistically four servings.
Finishing this dish with lime zest and juice brightens its rich flavors.
Yield 6 servings (serving size: about 3 ounces ribs, 2/3 cup rice, and about 2 1/2 tablespoons sauce)
2 teaspoons canola oil

See, I'm kinda intimidated by your mad cooking skillz, so I'm just kind of afraid that any recipe I send would be received with a hearty laugh and a "THIS? You call THIS a recipe?"
That said, I have a wild mushroom stuffing recipe and a recipe for parmesan-garlic-basil mashed potatoes if you're interested ;)
Hi there,
I've never commented before, but I read your site sometimes via Jeff's (we went to high school together). I'm a little obsessed with cooking, so I couldn't resist responding to this post. I was looking for your email address on the site, but it's either not there or I missed it. Anyway, here is one recipe, but I can send more if you want. Just email me with your address!
Cranberry/dried cherry sauce
12-oz frozen cranberry juice cocktail, thawed (I use the organic kind, because it's not so sickeningly sweet as the other stuff)
1 cup water
1 (packed) cup light brown sugar
1 cinnamon stick, broken in half
1/4 teaspoon ground allspice
6 oz dried tart cherries
12-oz bag fresh cranberries
Bring thawed cranberry juice, water, brown sugar, cinnamon stick, and allspice to a boil in a medium saucepan over medium-high heat, stirring until sugar completely dissolves. While still boiling, add the dried cherries and cook 3 minutes. Add the cranberries and cook until they pop, stirring occasionally, 12 minutes or until slightly thickened. Pour into bowl, cover, and chill overnight. Voila! Tart and saucy!
Yes, I am also very intimidated by your cooking skills as well. Being a southerner I have two dishes that I totally miss. Corn Bread stuffing and Green Bean casserole. Neither one hard but apparently not a north eastern thing to do. Oh, and Pecan Pie. :)
Y'all gots to just have somea them Brussels Sprouts. Just cook 'em up right nice like, nice 'n' green and pop 'em down y'alls chute. I jes know that man a yours like a Brussel.
I was going to say cornbread dressing but Cindy beat me to it. The other thing that I like to make for Thanksgiving/Xmas holiday is a southern/cajun/Native American dish called maque choux - it's a corn based dish with peppers, onions and tomatoes - it is spicy (go figure), but you can adjust that to taste - and it looks good because of the colors (yellow, green, and red). It's also fairly healthy (except for the little bit of heavy cream that is added to make it just that much better!) Those are the two I'm thinking of making for a holiday party my boss is throwing. (Oh, and then there's always cheese grits! Yum!)
