Without a fail I always get sick right before I go on vacation. This one I have been fighting off for a week. I am just really tired right now with a mild sore throat. I am trying to combat it with sleep. I took naps when the kids took naps this weekend. I left work early today to come home and rest.
Saturday afternoon we took the kids to pick out a pumpkin and run around in the beautiful Fall atmosphere. That morning was their last gymnastics class since we will be gone the next two Saturdays. I am thinking of switching Keegan to a different kind of class for variety. He has swimming, gymnastics and music/movement class as part of his week at school.
Yesterday while dinner cooked we took the dogs for a long walk and Jeff made them run so much they were exhausted the rest of the night. They need more of that. Then Jeff tried to maim me by having me ride with him on Keegan's scooter while the kids chased us on bikes. I would like to not being wearing a sling or cast for my wedding. We also learned that the kids love lasagna. Even my picky eater scarfed down the whole plate.
We're trying to use up the rest of the last veggie pickup and other items in the refrigerator. There is a crock pot of chili downstairs that has been simmering all day. I call it "Kitchen Sink" chili because it has everything. And I talked Jeff into putting in white beans with the black and kidney. There's a box of cornmeal in the pantry begging to be used up on cornbread to go with it.
All of it doing a great job at erasing Friday which was a crappy day. The only thing I feared about taking this job turned out to be true. There is a political element I don't enjoy. I want to do my job right, serve the citizens and be able to standup for what I have signed my name to. That is all stickier now. But I would rather deal with the discomfort than mar my integrity. It was bad enough I even took a bath. I never take baths because I don't have the attention span to sit still that long. But I took a page from Erika's book and it worked out just peachy.
How do you know you are happy? When at the end of a day, no matter how bad it was, you look in the mirror and still love your life.
