Glass Houses

I went down to see Sammy last night. I actually spent three hours with him before Erika and Jay came because they were busy making sure she was okay. Subsequently I was there until after 11pm and home and in bed after 1am.
He looked great. Good color and like he is sleeping peacefully. If he gets a bald spot over his ear it's because that is my favorite place to pet him. I try to accept the 11 medication pumps and three spares, multitude of tubes and trickle of the vent as part of who he is right now. That is easier for me because I'm not his mother and I don't have to learn what it all means. It's like they all live on another planet right now. Their reality is the three square block area around the hospital and living from update to update from Sammy's medical team with some contact with the outside world.
I did not get to kiss Sammy goodbye last night because they were suctioning his vent but I squeezed his foot and said, "Goodbye Squeak." Then I left the hospital and returned to this planet.
