So imagine you are sitting on your couch last night around 8:15 eating your supper. You start to experience stomach cramps. At 8:30 you feel your water break. The contractions are so bad you can't get enough breath to yell for your husband to stop doing the dishes and get the car. You want to push so badly. You finally get his attention and tell him to call 911. He assures you that you are fine driving yourselves to the hospital. You finally make it to the emergency room and find out that you are 8 cm dilated. By the time you get on the gurney and head towards the elevator you are 9 1/2. They tell you to be prepared to deliver in the elevator. Miraculously you make it to the maternity ward. Moments after they place you in the bed you deliver a beautiful baby girl. From start to finish the whole delivery took 90 minutes.
Now you have lived the last 24 hours with my friend Kim. The baby's sex was a surprise and this is their second child. Their son Colin is the reason I know Kim from mother's group. She was doing great when I called her at the hospital this afternoon and was nursing. Apparently that is much easier the second time around too.
