The Small Scoop

So I did a very cursory search for the whole UNICEF international adoption thing that came up on Halloween. And basically I couldn't identify a policy that says that UNICEF opposes international adoptions. I did find their policy. Which at face value I don't have a problem with. Further poking revealed a permanent moratorium on international adoptions in Romania but UNICEF is not supportive of this policy and neither is the US. There does appear to be some controversy going on in Guatemala. And supposedly UNICEF is supporting a national law there which prohibits adoptions by people who are single. Which I am not supportive of because this rules out same-sex couples who can't be recognized as married and of course completely capable single parents too. Maybe this is what my neighbor was referring to. So basically I still feel fine with donating to UNICEF and supporting them in their efforts to help children who remain in their own countries. There are a lot of "undesirable" children all over the world and particulary in the US who will never find safe, healthy and loving homes.
