Curried Beef Short Ribs

Note: I found this was more realistically four servings.

Finishing this dish with lime zest and juice brightens its rich flavors.

DC Round Up

I don't have wireless capability in my work laptop so I didn't have any access while I was gone. Slightly annoying. But really it forces me to write one post that summarizes my trip instead of several longer versions. So really, everyone wins.

Arrive in DC
Lunch at Bistrot du Coin, mussels in curry cream sauce & spatzle
Went to see "Broken Flowers"
Cocktails at Hotel Monaco
Dinner at Andale, shared a bunch of appetizers so it was "tapas-like"
Almost successfully forgot it was my seven year wedding anniversary

Breakfast was purchased at the farmer's market, blackberries & fresh yogurt
Lunch at Lauriol Plaza, seafood enchiladas, they have the best salsa
Checked into hotel
Dinner prepared by Angie made of fixins from the farmer's market, okra patties & shrimp/squash over pasta
Went to the hotel so she could watch the last episode of "Six Feet Under" in peace

Leadership conference
Dinner at Old Ebbitt Grill (DC institution) with two state representatives and others from my leadership class, lump crab cakes & blackberry pie
Walked to the new WWII Memorial and down to Lincoln/Korean/Vietnam monuments

Grant conference
Cocktails at Sabrina's since she couldn't get a babysitter
Dinner at Tallula, mini gruyere tart, mini-corn dog made with chorizo, lamb chops, blood orange sorbet and over 70 wines available by the glass.

Program conference
Dinner at the home of the Washingtonian magazine food editor, chicken cacciatore, peach pie, Mexican cognac made with honey

Program conference
Used free passes to the International Spy Musuem

Dinner in the suburbs with my brothers, SIL and nieces.

Checked out of hotel
Lunch at Kanlaya found on a whim in Chinatown, grilled pork, goong & chicken lad na.
Headed up to stay with Andra
Cocktails at Hotel Monaco (again, loved the bar there)
Dinner at Zaytinya, pomegranate cocktail, shared a wide variety of greek/turkish tapas, turkish delight for dessert.

Shopped around Eastern Market, couldn't resist buying cinnamon praline covered pecans
Nationals baseball game (Cardinals won), chicken tenders, fries and a beer of course
Dinner at the Melting Pot, cheese fondues, cooking your own meat, chocolate fondues, bottle of Reisling

Brunch at Cafe Hon (Baltimore)
Flew home

I ate and drank way more than any normal week (heck, month!). But that is the true DC lifestyle. Loved seeing my family and friends but I'm glad to be home. I can't wait to get my paws on Keegan after work.
