Did you watch Battlestar Galactica as a kid? I loved that show. Stop snickering. Even as a little girl I knew Starbuck was hot. Anyway, among the many cool (I said stop!) parts of the show was the concept of "cubits." This non-paper/coinage money unit was kept track of on their watches. You could pay for everything that way including your card game losses. I have been waiting all this time for this to become a reality. No luck so far. But I love my debit card, atleast it comes close to the concept. I actually know people who don't own ATM/debit cards. That is so bizarre to me.
Part of my love of the electronic currency is that I am not good with paper money. It burns a hole right through my pocket. I start off with cash and then a few hours later it's gone. Case in point. This morning I had $20. By this afternoon I have $2. Atleast this time I can pinpoint where it went.
Two hand knit chickens (too cute) from a co-worker at $5 a piece.
Lunch $5
Water club dues $3
See gone too quickly. Some people may argue that electronic funds disappear too easily for them. Not me. I use my debits for things I have to buy anyway, ie. groceries, gas, household needs. I am far more likely to spend it if I have that cold hard cash in my paws.
So we might not have realized my scifi dream yet but we're getting closer. And hey I always wanted a daggit (sp?), I guess for now I could get an Aibo.
