Curried Beef Short Ribs

Note: I found this was more realistically four servings.

Finishing this dish with lime zest and juice brightens its rich flavors.

Old Soul

My little guy is eight months, one week and nine days old. I haven't done a monthly update since six months because I always get busy and then think I'll make up for it the next month. Sunday I packed away all of his clothes from 0 to 9 months. But the sad part was packing up the toys, bouncers and activity gym. All of the first things he loved and learned with. Almost makes me want another little one. Almost.
The difference from six to eight months is very dramatic. He has been growing and developing like crazy since birth. I just think it is more noticeable now because it is all the gross motor skills coming together.
It took him two months of rocking back and forth on all fours but he finally started crawling three weeks ago. Now he can not be stopped. Boy is he fast on those knees. The real challenge is that he pulls himself up to standing. He was actually able to do that a couple of days before he started crawling. Now he has a whole new view of the world. Not to mention that he can reach all kinds of breakables. Sometimes he will just stand and do nothing but look around for over fifteen minutes. I have no idea what he is plotting.

Along with the major mobility has come the first real signs of a personality. He is past that sweet docile phase and now gets upset when you take things away from him. You know like electrical cords, remote controls and telephones. But he is also very focused and will play independently for long periods. It is so sweet because after a while he'll crawl over and pull himself up on my lap. That is when you know he wants some cuddle time. And he is still such a lovey guy.
I think my favorite part now is that he is interactive. We don't know what we are saying but we'll make noises back and forth. Another development is his sudden love for music. He never seemed to be soothed by lullabies. Now he loves any silly song I come up with. And he is positively mesmerized by music on TV. He particulary loves the Ellen Show theme which we watch while having lunch. His own patience has developed as fast as mine. It is so nice to be able to get a bottle ready or unload the groceries without him screaming
It is not that I think my baby is some kind of genius. But more that I have a greater appreciation for babies in general. I had no idea that they were doing so many cool things. They are such little sponges for everything that is going on around them. I actually used to think babies were boring, perish the thought.
So the woman who swore she'd never have a house covered in baby stuff was wrong. Although I put the toys away each evening, the place is permanently structured for kids. As evidenced by the removal of our coffee table and other dangerous/delicate items. And the maze created by the swing, rocking horse and exersaucer, and of course the industrial strength, mounted into the wall, baby gate at the top of the stairs as you enter. I guess I knew I was a goner the first time a picked Keegan's nose or nonchalantly wiped spitup off my shoulder. It really is different when it is your own child. But the diapers still smell as bad.

PS No teeth yet!!! This kid is going to be gumming his sixteenth birthday cake. I wouldn't care if he didn't get fussy like he was teething. I actually caught him chewing on the leg of couch one time.

(Edited: I put a couple of new pics up. I have tons more that I have fallen behind with!)
