I read this post and went to get my copy to bring to her. I found my boxed set and clear as day my book #1 was missing too. Weird. I searched the rest of the bookshelves but couldn't locate it. Then I focused and remembered that I HAD lent mine out. To a kid I worked with in residential care a few years ago. He had a horrible home life and had been adopted. Then his adoptive mother abused him. Can you imagine?
No wonder he wanted to escape through the back of the wardrobe. I saw him years later and he promised to replace the book, but I never saw him again.
