How Does Her Garden Grow?

From as long as I can remember we always had a garden. It didn't matter where we were stationed, my dad found a way to grow stuff. Sometimes in containers or sometimes in land he rented away from the house. So every weekend morning we had to help. Nobody went anywhere until we had done the weeding. I hated it for the longest time. My brother Scott didn't mind because my dad bestowed a title upon him. He was known as the "Assistant Chief Head Gardener." You can guess who the Chief was.
Well sometime around when I got out of college and lived on my own I started getting the urge to grow things too. By the time we moved up here and bought a house I had an obssession about having a garden of my own. Our yard wasn't exactly ripe for produce so I started out in pots. During the long season waiting for the snow to melt I planted little flowers seeds in a miniature greenhouse. I loved coming home to see something alive and green in my window sill. Then when it was time I planted those flowers outside. I even took some with me when we moved. I didn't want to leave them behind.
So this being the first year in our new house I dreamed all winter of a garden. I had my dad over to walk the yard and we picked out the perfect spot. We built raised beds and filled them with a soil and manure combo. I put in peppers, several kinds of tomatoes and green beans. Nothing is ready to harvest yet but I love seeing those miniature fruits and veggies where there were only flowers a wek before. I hope my bees also appreciate a pollen source so nearby.

Here is today's pic of the garden next to my hive. (Click for more detail.)

And this is one of my first tiny green beans. I love the flowers, they are so delicate and a nice lavender. (Click for more detail.)

Very nice pics! I'm trying to develop a green thumb. So far, two house plants have survived! I'd love to start container gardening in the new house!
