I really need to stop getting up on Sat. mornings before 7am. Why do I do this knowing I hate getting up eary? It's because I love shopping more. Today we drove two hours up to Maine for a yard sale. But this was no ordinary yard sale. Tom's uncle is this amazing furniture maker and wood carver. Every year on Memorial Day weekend he sells all the pieces he spent those long winter months making. We had never been but I promised myself that this year we would go. We brought my dad along too. My mom had eyed a carved blue heron and rumor had it that Tom's uncle had made another one. Mom is in California with the grandparents so it was my job to make sure her interests were represented. My dad didn't seem to mind and he really enjoyed looking around their place.
They have this beautiful old manor house that overlooks a lake. They used to own the resort below but decided to retire and sold it. They kept lake frontage and two boathouses that they converted into the most adorable cottages. Tom's uncle is from Switzerland so everything has that Swiss flair.
So I managed to purchase a few items. A beautful corner table with curved legs and hand carving. A shaker looking tool caddy that I haven't decide what I am doing with but something will strike me. And this really cool carved birdhouse with on old man's face where the bird's have to fly into his mouth. I wanted to post pics but my stupid copy of photoshop has decided to blow up each time I try to open it.
Oh and there was one thing else I fell in love with. This beautiful cradle. I was mesmerized and could see it in our bedroom with our newborn. But it was expensive and I couldn't see buying it without even knowing. I have this thing about jinxing our chances. I do not have anything in house right now that is overtly baby related. I have things to decorate the nursery but they could just as easily go into a guestroom too. I have put that room together a thousand times in my head. I have written poems about me holding that baby.
I really didn't mean for this post to end up being about babies. But that is where my head is these days. Everything circles around and comes back to it.

Curried Beef Short Ribs

Finishing this dish with lime zest and juice brightens its rich flavors.
