Gimme Gimme

We're all looking for something. Christine needs motivation. My problem is more like Jay's. I am desperately seeking a new hosting company. Mine sucks. It's like a boyfriend you can't break up with. You get mad, you confront them and they apologize and make it all better. So you don't leave because it's easier to stay. And maybe it will get better this time. But then the vicious circle starts all over.

They claim the problem is that they have been attacked all week. I suspect it is from their customers. I am almost ready to up the anty from my sarcastic emails to tech support. But even when they fix the problem they leave behind important files. Like I don't know, the ability to post or comment. Trivial to them I am sure. But for us bloggers it is torture.

So I will begin my search for the elusive perfect hosting company. Any suggestions? And when I find them I will break up with the old one. Sure I've been with them since I started blogging. But I think it is time for us to move on and meet new people. Only then can we truly grow and learn to love ourselves.

good luck and more power to you!

I still have a site hosted with your hosting company, and I believe that their service has actually gotten better since they were acquired.

however...it still isn't great.

the hard thing is finding another place that has what we need at the price we want, that isn't run by college freshmen, and nobody will never find out about, so it can never grow too big too fast....

ah, to dream...

I've asked around and haven't gotten anything positive from anyone - I'll be interested to hear what you find out!

You just said my own thoughts! Do we have the same hosting company?

Hey Alisa:O) I use Host Radius (http://hostradius.com) and so far I have had no trouble at all. Prices are great and when I do have a question they respond immediatley. No complaints from this happy customer :oP

Hi! Just came over from Jay's, because I can't resist the bait of a good hosting discussion - I have no idea why :) I use and really like Blogomania, but have also heard good things about hostingmatters.com, insiderhosting.com and vervehosting.com. I know I sound like a commercial here; I promise I'm not a professional endorser!

I just switched from a hosting company that completely deleted my husband's site to Blogomania. They're great. Very quick. If the site goes down, it's typically only for 2 minutes or so. It's especially nice because they're geared toward bloggers, so they're familiar with what modules you need, how best to support them, and such. Good luck! :)

I feel the need to plug my wonderful host now. I don't work for them, I'm just really, really happy with the service.

Tera-byte.com is a small company based in Canada. In comparison to my friends who have blogs, I have by far the least expensive plan. I pay about $9.25 a month for 200MB of space and 20 gigs of transfer a month. It has shell access, MySQL, CGI, PHP, usage logs and all that. (($9.25 is one of their more expensive plans, if you can believe that. You can go as low as $25 a year with them if you want. There's also a discount if you pay for more than one month at a time.)) I've been using them for about four years now, and in that time, my site has been down once, for less than 24 hours ((probably far less, but I was away from the computer for that long after finding out.)) Email has been down maybe three of four times, never for more than about fifteen minutes. Tech support is near-immediate - The longest that I've ever waited for a reply over email was less than 8 hours, and over the phone tech support is available if you'd prefer that.

Hope that you find a host that you love - Good luck! Hope that helped somewhat.

Yeah, see, I just leech space off my MT guru so I don't have to worry about hosting ;)

But my CAR, now that sounds an awful lot like your hosting problem. I actually call him "The Bad Boyfriend" - he's shiny and hot, but he's unreliable. I get him fixed, it's like an apology, he runs well for a while and I feel bad, but then he breaks down again. Over and over ad nauseum.

Who needs technology!?

Well, I'm in the same boat. I'm tired of all the stuff that's been going on at Cyberpixels and the lack of customer support. I'm on the hunt too!
