So we went to see "8 Mile" on Saturday night. Tom loves hip\hop, rap, etc. and I was fine with seeing it. Besides he got to pick because we were using the movie passes that he got at work for his birthday.
Well the movie was good but not great. Certainly not worth all the hype, but interesting. The thing that ruined it was the audience. They weren't talking or anything, they were children!! Granted the theater actually checked i.d. but these kids were accompanied by a parent. Hello people, this is not a family night kind of movie. Not exaggerating in the first 30 seconds you get the "F" word five times. But its not even that or the drugs or the alcohol or the violence. Its more the graphic sex scenes with relative strangers and his mom's complaint that her b-friend won't "go down on her."
I would love to be a fly on the mini-van wall when they have that conversation on the ride home. I'm all about giving your kids a realistic perspective and taking them to movies that encourage frank, open discussion. But YOU HAVE GOT TO BE KIDDING ME!!!! This is not okay. I joked to Tom that Child Services should be waiting in the lobby making referrals to parenting classes.
I not even sure what the message of the movie is or if there is one, but I am sure its not for kids.
